This April, we’re hosting a special Sewing Gathering where we’ll breathe new life into traditional Japanese kimono obi (belts) by turning them into stunning, functional bags. Whether you’re a seasoned sewist or a curious beginner, this is your chance to learn, create, and connect! ✨ About the Obi Belt The **obi** is a long, decorative sash worn with kimono, renowned for its intricate patterns, luxurious fabrics (like silk or brocade), and cultural significance. These belts are often heirlooms or vintage treasures, but as kimono traditions evolve, many obi are left unused. By repurposing them, we honor their beauty while embracing sustainable creativity! 🎒 What We’ll Do At this hands-on workshop, you’ll: - Learn techniques to upcycle obi belts into unique bags (think clutches, totes, crossbody styles, and more!). - Discover the history and symbolism of obi designs. - Experiment with variations—mix fabrics, add linings, or incorporate modern hardware for a personalized touch! - Connect with fellow makers who share a passion for sewing No sewing experience?
